What questions should I ask my stair builder agreeing to hire them to build my stair?

Building a stair can be a daunting task.  The stair builder is the expert and has a great deal of information to share with you.  What are some questions you can ask to help you understand the process better?

1.  Does my quote include stairs and railings?  Often quotes will be made separately for a stair and for the railings portion of the job.  If the quote doesn’t mention railings, installation, staining, etc., then it isn’t included.

2. How long will it take for my stair to be made?  Stairs can take anywhere from 1 week to 6 weeks, depending on the type and complexity of the stair.

3.  Do I need to tell you before or after my stair is built that I want it to match the flooring or wall color in my home?  Each wood that is used in a stair will stain differently so sharing with the stair builder that you need it to match a color specifically in your home is very important.  This may determine the type of wood used for the stair construction.
